Minnesota has four teams remaining in the NCAA Soccer tournaments this weekend. Two mens D-3 MIAC teams will take to the field on Saturday. They are Carleton and Augsburg. Both teams play in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) which is considered one of the best NCAA D-3 conferences in the nation. But first, the two Minnesota women’s teams that are left, the D-1 U of M Gophers, and the D-3 Carleton Knights, both play on Friday night. The Gophers play at 6:30 p.m. CST, followed by the D-3 Carleton Knights, who will play at 7:30 p.m. CST.

In the first game of the night,  our  Golden Gophers (22-3-0) will play the #1 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish (23-0-0). Notre Dame is making its 16th straight appearance in the NCAAtournament and won national titles in 1995 and 2004. An interesting note, this is the furthest that any team-entry NCAA Carleton team has made it into any tournament and this year the mens and women’s teams are both setting the record.

That’s pretty good that UOM women can hold ND scoreless for 90 minutes and lost in OT with PK. It sucks to lose with PK. To lose against #1 in the Nation ain’t bad either.

Well done and kudos to the Lady Gophers for the best season in their history.

It’s been a joy to follow the team on their way to the Sweet 16.

    Peace and futbol.
