Thunder launches season ticket packages for 2009

I’ve been a proud Minnesota Thunder season ticket holder for the last 5 years. This year I will be purchasing the Supporter ticket package which includes a nifty supporters scarf. I also love the “flex” option involved with that package which means, if I can’t make a game, I can save my ticket and use it another time and have my son or a friend come along to use the extra ticket that I didn’t use last time. How cool is that?

I’ve known since this past fall about some special pricing for the upcoming year that is sure to make the Thunder family friendly as well as very popular amongst the Thunders target market, which is the 25-40 year olds that are looking for an affordable sports experience. This will especially be true when the Happy Gnome finishes the beer garden that was frustratingly never finished last season. I have been told that it will be up and running for the opener this coming year. In fact the supporters will be relocated to the north side of the halfway line and the home and away benches will be swapped this season. This will put the Dark Clouds supporters in the more northerly section of the half and closer to the beer garden. The north section of the field will be more of a fun section. There will be another smaller supporters section hanging out behind the north goal which has been coined, Stand du Nord. I love that!

The south half will have more of a family feel and will be closer to the bathrooms and concession stands. Your choice!

These prices couldn’t have come at a better time with the current economy. The Thunder are sure to be the best bargain for your sports entertainment dollar in town.

The new ticket pricing plans have some cool options for youth as there is now a season ticket for the 18 and under crowd. The Shield Youth Pass will allow those who fit into that age slot into any Thunder or Lightning game for price of only $20.00 a year. I love this because it really promotes youth players getting out to see live professional mens and women’s soccer. This is a great stocking stuffer for youth soccer players that live in the metro area.

Here are the season ticket plans:

-Pitch Side – $375*
-Platinum (section 11) – $225, $240 for flex option*
-Gold (section 10) - $195, $210 for flex option
-Supporters (section 12 and 13)- $185 for flex option**
-Silver (Sections 1-9 and 14 – 15)- $150, $165 for flex option
-Bronze (bleachers on north, east and south)- $65, $70 for flex option
-Shield Youth Pass (Good for Silver and Bronze sections, 18 and under) – $20
*Includes seat back
**Includes Thunder supporter’s scarf

I know it’s only early December but I love thinking about the upcoming season. It helps to keep me going through the long winter months.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. (Tuesday, December 2, 2008)

The Minnesota Thunder announced today its season ticket package options for the 2009 season. In a newly renovated soccer specific stadium at the National Sports Center, Thunder season tickets are a better experience than ever with some packages allowing for fans to pick their specific seat for every single regular season game on a first come first serve basis. New in 2009 is the Thunder Shield Pass which allows admission for any Thunder or Lightning regular season home game to all youth 18 and under for only $20 per season. In addition, fans can purchase season tickets good for the bleacher seating for as little as $65.

To purchase season tickets, visit www.mnthunder.com or call 651.294.4664 . To download the PDF that outlines the different packages and benefits, click HERE

The Thunder’s Pitch Side season ticket includes one of 80 chairs that are placed right next to the home and visitor benches on the field, just 10 feet from the touch line. Pitch Side season tickets will also include in-seat food & beverage service. These seats are a first come first serve basis item and these ticket holders will receive one ticket to all regular season, exhibition, US Open Cup, and playoff games. Pitch Side season ticket holders will also receive a season ticket to the Lightning’s six home games. This package is the best value for the money.

The Supporter ticket package, for the most passionate of fans, includes a commemorative Thunder scarf that is actually designed by the fans themselves. Be prepared to have some fun in this standing section directly behind the visitor’s bench.

“The Supporter’s section is growing in numbers each season, said Thunder general manager Djorn Buchholz. “This section is open to everybody and really helps to create the atmosphere inside the stadium. With a newly renovated stadium we provide one of the best viewing areas in the country for this group of fans in section 12 and 13. If you’re up for some singing, horn playing, and plenty of good chants, this Supporter’s ticket package is for you.”

In 2009, Thunder season tickets will include 15 tickets, one for each of the 15 regular season home games. Fans choosing this type of package in the Platinum and Gold sections will be able to choose their specific seat for the season on a first come first serve basis. Fans will have the opportunity to purchase the traditional flex tickets for an additional price that will provide fans with 15 open-ended tickets that can be used in any combination for any regular season game.

Great news for Thunder fans … excellent price point, supporters section and beer garden.

I really like your image of the newly renovated NSC (aka the Nessy) almost full to capacity on the far side, featuring recent Carling Cup giant killers Burnley FC. (Chelsea and Arsenal both defeated in this years cup run, no doubt due to rigorous pre-season training on the hot and humid tundra – now frozen solid).

Keep up the great work, bq, well done.
