NSCAA honors 11 Women from MIAC with Scholar Awards

St. Paul, Minn. 1/2/2009 — The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has honored 11 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) women’s soccer student-athletes with scholar awards.

College of Saint Benedict senior defender Rachel Loftus (Savage, Minn., Mathematics and Spanish major, 3.85 GPA) and Carleton College junior midfielder Mia Zutz (Middleton, Wis., Chemistry major, 3.51 GPA) were both selected for the 2008 NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-America Third Team.

Loftus and Zutz were also named to the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-Central Region First Team. Augsburg College senior defender Felicia Faison (Minneapolis, Minn., Accounting, 3.74 GPA) was the MIAC’s lone Second Team honoree. Gustavus Adolphus College senior midfielder Callie Christensen (Bloomington, Minn., Economics and Management, 3.51 GPA) and Carleton College senior forward Nicky Bloom (Evanston, Ill., Romance Languages, 3.64 GPA) were both selected for the All-Region Third Team.

Six MIAC student-athletes were named Honorable Mention Scholar All-Region. They included: Augsburg College senior goalkeeper Maggie DeGroot (Waukesha, Wis., Health Fitness, 3.34 GPA), Gustavus Adolphus College junior defender Alison Dittmer (Plymouth, Minn., Biology and Biochemistry, 3.85 GPA), Augsburg College junior defender Whitney Holman (New Hope, Minn., Psychology and Religion, 3.93 GPA), Concordia College junior defender Mikenna Maroney (Kalispell, Mont., Political Science and History, 3.75 GPA), Gustavus Adolphus College junior forward Chelsea Craven (Sauk Rapids, Minn., International Management and Spanish, 3.44 GPA), and Gustavus Adolphus College senior forward Christine Tupy (Eagan, Minn., Physics, 3.41 GPA).
