U-17 boys MTA team competes in College Cup

The Minnesota Thunder Academy (MTA) web site has a nice article up today, concerning the U-17 team that competed at this years Men’s College Cup Showcase Event in Dallas. According to the MTA site, the tournament was the first event together as a team. The boys had trained six times prior to the trip and played two scrimmages in preparation for this event. The boys played well but were frustrated with some of their results.

I talked to team coach, Greg Holker, when he and the boys were at the tournament in mid December. Holker said it was hard to get the boys to realize that playing “the right way” was the most important thing and that the rest would come in time. According to Holker, the academy approach is different than some of the boys are used to experiencing. Please see the MTA article for more information on the teams tournament experience.

Ya, I thought the same thing. Most of them look very familiar but the only ones I can say for sure is Whitney Brown (Osseo) bottom far left, and Paul Yonga (Totino Grace) top row far right.

Being that these guys are not adults yet, there may be some issues for MTA, with getting their permission first before publishing names.
