Minnesota native, Briana Scurry, is not packing her bags quite yet. She was chosen yesterday as the 35th pick overall and the 5th pick for the Freedom, who will play in the newly formed women’s soccer league called, Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS).

According to the Freedom’s WPS website: It had been unclear if Scurry, a veteran of the 1999, 2003 and 2007 U.S. Women’s World Cup teams, wanted to be a part of WPS, Gabarra said that after a recent conversation with her agent he felt she was ready to contribute to the new league.

“We’re excited to offer her the opportunity to play for the Freedom,” Gabarra said. “We respect everything she’s done in the past. We think with her experience she is someone who can challenge for the No. 1 spot and if called upon we’re confident she can perform at the level she performed at in the past both in the WUSA and with the national team.”

Minnesota Gopher sr. midfielder and Iowa native, Kelsey Hood, who had been invited to the WPS combine, was not selected in yesterday’s draft. Hood has spent the last several summers playing for the Boston Renegades of the W-League. In 2006 she played for the MN Lightning.
