Chicago could host one more World Cup qualifier in 09
Luis Arroyave of the Chicago Tribune and author of the Red Card Blog, is reporting this afternoon, that Chicago could host one more World Cup qualifier for the United States National Mens team according to the U.S. Soccer Federation.
On Sept. 10, 2008, the U.S. hosted Trinidad and Tobago in a World Cup qualifier at Toyota Park. That event was not well attended, but the U.S. had already qualified for the next round of the CONCACAF qualifiers, no doubt affecting attendance.
According to Arroyave, This means Chicago could host the qualifier against Honduras (June 6), the qualifier against Costa Rica (Sept. 5) or the qualifier against El Salvador (Oct. 14).
While the location of the April 1 qualifier will be announced tomorrow (it won’t be Chicago), the locations of the last three qualifiers will be announced at a later date.
The USSF has yet to decide if Soldier Field or Toyota Park would host should Chicago get a qualifier.
Arroyave says he was also told that Chicago could host a few Gold Cup games this summer. Looks like we US National supporters could be seeing quite a bit of Chicago in 2009.

hey brian
when the usa hosted t&t they had NOT yet qualified for the next round – so that excuse for the lame turnout is invalid

You are correct sir and I stand corrected, however, the US were clearly out in front of the pack and it would have taken a major slip-up to cause a catastrophic collapse. So was it apathy then? Also, if I correct my post, these comments would be moot and I’d need to delete them.
My sources indicate that LP Field in Nashville will be the locale of the USA-T&T match on April 1. I’ve heard there’s a great place to eat in that town called Loveless that I’d like to check out some day…
