Two new players to be added to Thunder roster today
Edited 1:00 p.m. 02/25/09 Corrected Richard Costanzo’s college information.
The Minnesota Thunder will announce two new signings today pending paper work.
Rod Dyachenko is a DC United veteran, playing with the club since 2006. In 2005 Dyachenko was named the 2005 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Year following his senior season at UNLV. He also earned his third consecutive All-MPSF First Team honors by leading the Rebels with eight goals and one assist. He ended his career with 23 career goals (seven game-winners).
In 2008, Dyacnenko played 19 games (5 starts) for United with 3 assists. He logged in 776 minutes with the reserve team where he scored 6 goals 3 assists.
Look for the Thunder to use Dyachenko in a midfield role.
Richard Costanzo will also also be announced today. A player who was Pennsylvania state player of the year as a senior, a two-time NSCAA All-American and a two-time regional All-American. He was twice named the WPIAL Player of the Year. He was also member of the U-18 national team pool in 2004.
Costanzo attended Penn State where he was co-captain and was played at defense as well as forward. He then finished his last three years at Maryland wining a national Championship. He was not invited to the MLS Combine but the Thunder saw qualities in him that they liked. The Thunder may be looking to the player for support in the back line. Costanzo is known as a tenacious and hard working player who is good in the air.
