U of M Women kick off spring schedule on the west coast
The University of Minnesota Women’ soccer team kicked off their spring schedule with a trip last weekend to Los Angeles California. The team played 2 games coming away with a draw and loss.
On Saturday, the Golden Gophers took on the Trojans of USC. The game ended a 0-0 draw but was evenly played according to Gophersports.com. One thing to note, redshirted freshman goalkeeper, Cat Parkhill. Parkhill served a redshirt season last fall so that she could focus on the gold medal effort of the United States’ U20 World Cup team.
Sunday saw the Gophers play Loyola Marymount Lions in a match that saw the Gophers dominate most of the game but come out on the losing end, 2-1. Minnesota outshot the Lions 10-4.
The team is working on replacing six senior starters as they prepare for their fall season.
As a coaching staff, we are very encouraged by where we are at right now after taking on two quality teams in California this weekend. We try to play high level teams like USC and LMU so that we can figure out what is next in the evolution of our team for our regular season next fall. We can certainly identify some things that need our group’s attention and some valuable lessons learned on how to finish a game, but overall we are excited to move forward and get back to work.
