Miami FC still in limbo as Traffic Sports decides
A letter from Marcos Ommati, Public Releations Director of Miami FC:
Miami, February 9 – Miami FC announced today that the final decision regarding its overall future and participation in the 2009 USL-1 season will be made over the coming days. The public deadline for support was yesterday, Sunday, March 8th, however Miami FC encourages everyone to continue purchasing the ticket packages and sending letters supporting Miami FC and professional soccer in South Florida throughout this week.
“All show of support will help as we look to review the ticket packages which have been purchased and the letters we have received. At this point, we are around 1,250 ticket packages sold. So we are far off of the target of 5,000. While we don’t necessarily have to hit the 5,000 mark to continue, we must get closer. The combination of season tickets and other forms of support will determine our decision. As of now, we continue to ask, does South Florida truly want a professional soccer team?”, questioned Aaron Davidson, President of Miami FC and Vice President of Traffic Sports.
Miami FC staff members would like to thank all the community for the support shown in the past few days. Over the weekend, Miami FC teamed up with its official supporters group The Ultras to organize a soccer marathon. Soccer lovers from all over South Florida came out to Monsignor Edward Pace High School to play for 24 hours non-stop. The event attracted about 300 people. The kick-off of the 24-hour Soccer-a-Thon was on Saturday, March 7th, at 6 pm and the final game ended at exactly 6 pm on Sunday, March 8th.
Miami FC would also like to thank the companies and individuals who donated items to the silent auction that took place during the Soccer-a-Thon: Avant Garde Spa & Salon, Brasserie Restaurant Brickell Key, Marriott Miami Airport, Miami Seaquarium, Red Bull, The Florida Marlins, Traffic Sports USA, Tula & Tupi Kids Clothing, Aaron Davidson, Dr. Alex, Debbie la Rocca, Fernando Fiori, Chef Manny Cruz and last but not least, Teofilo Cubillas.
NOTE:
Inside Minnesota Soccer’s good friend Kartik Krishnaiyer was at the rally this weekend and tells us that Barcelona dropping out of the MLS picture may have helped to change the outlook of Traffic Sports. He also said that if Traffic were undecided, it may still be a while before a decision is made as representatives from Miami FC would need to meet with officials from Traffic Sports located in Brazil.
Best of luck to Miami FC. All of us in the USL are pulling for you.

We Miami fans need this team to stay, it’s all we have after we got teased by Barcelona.
Thanks for writing about this Brian, most people only bash on Miami.
Agreed, you do need the team, but Traffic needs the fans in the seats. What will it take for So. Florida fans to get behind this team? By the way Uncle Ed, we support you 100%, but when your team comes to MN, we will harass them endlessly about this. Why? Because that’s what supporters groups do.
