The really pointy cup competition coming to Chicago’s Soldier Field
The Gold Cup, or as I call it, the “really pointy cup,” will be coming to Chicago again this year. I can hear my mother saying, “You could put an eye out with that trophy.”
The 2009 Gold Cup will take place in a record 13 cities from July 3-26. According to CONCAF General Secretary Chuck Blazer, the tournament was spread across the country to create more interest in the competition. Chicago will host the semifinals on July 23rd at Soldier Field. Soldier Field hosted the semifinals and final in July 2007.
