The really pointy cup competition coming to Chicago’s Soldier Field

Gold Cup Mexico USA SoccerThe Gold Cup, or as I call it, the “really pointy cup,” will be coming to Chicago again this year.  I can hear my mother saying, “You could put an eye out with that trophy.”

The 2009 Gold Cup will take place in a record 13 cities from July 3-26. According to CONCAF General Secretary Chuck Blazer, the tournament was spread across the country to create more interest in the competition. Chicago will host the semifinals on July 23rd at Soldier Field. Soldier Field hosted the semifinals and final in July 2007.

First Round
July 3 – Home Depot Center (Los Angeles)
July 4 – Qwest Field (Seattle)
July 5 – Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum (Oakland)
July 7 – Crew Stadium (Columbus, Ohio)
July 8 – Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium (Washington)
July 9 – Reliant Stadium (Houston)
July 10 – Florida International University Stadium (Miami)
July 11 – Gillette Stadium (Boston)
July 12 – University of Phoenix Stadium (Phoenix)

Quarterfinals
July 18 – Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia)
July 19 –Dallas Cowboys New Stadium (Dallas)
Semifinals
July 23 – Soldier Field (Chicago)

Final
July 26 – Giants Stadium (New York)
