I thought this event went very well. The Thunder have a sizeable number of players who are very good at interacting with the public in general and children in particular, which was my main concern last night. We encountered very little visible indifference.
I would have liked to see the players all in one area rather than spread out throughout the facility but other than that it was good. Ya, I think the players that have come in our pretty decent guys. I’ve heard that from some of the more veteran players. I conducted 4 interviews last night that I will try to make available in the next couple of nights, in-between moving my youngest son back from college and all the rest of the things I’m supposed to be doing. Spring is a busy time of year!
Spring is indeed impossibly busy. Good luck with all of that. I’ll admit that I was a little wary about this event as it was my five year old’s first exposure to professional athletes. Other than a couple younger players who could use some PR/diplomacy tips, everyone was top drawer, particularly Friedland, Greenfield, Kallman, Clements, Kante, and Arango. These types of interactions stick in young minds and create future supporters. I made a point this morning to single out these gentleman to Mr. Buchholz via email.
Ya, I loved it that the some of the players were down on the pitch playing footie with the kids, just kicking it around and truly having fun.
When I went to interview Dyanchenko and Kirk, they were both very cooperative but I particularly liked Quavas Kirk who told me that I was going to have to wait until a bunch of oncoming kids got autographs and time with the players first. I couldn’t have been happier to wait.
SR, Dude! I ran into Welier and we talked. I told him you were making him a banner which he thought was awesome and said he expected as much from his fan club. He was massively disappointed you weren’t there. He said he wondered if having a fan club was really all worth it if no one from that fan club actually shows up.

I bet Dale Weiler was disappointed that his OFFICIAL Fan Club didn’t show up.
We will make it up to him, but not at the first game.
