mysa4Inside Minnesota Soccer has learned of the sanctions that were handed down from the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association’s Tournament Committee last week. Both Mark Abboud and Andy Kassa were informed through a letter from MYSA  that they are both banned from coaching in a State Cup competition for the balance of 2009 and through the year 2010.

Also Andy Kassa’s U-13 girls team was disqualified from the State Cup Competition. According to sources who talked to IMS, a fourth official claimed he heard the two talking about an arrangement at the end of regulation time.

Mark Abboud declined to comment on the decision.

Andy Kassa confirmed the sanctions that were handed down by the State Cup Committee and said a decision was made with neither Abboud nor himself present to represent themselves. Kassa also said, “The best thing for the U13′s (Kassa’s team) is to just move on.” Kassa said he didn’t want his girls to have to be in the middle of this debate.

Barry Neal, President of the board of the Minnesota Thunder Academy also confirmed these sanctions from MYSA.

Candace Daily, Executive Director of Minnesota Youth Soccer was contacted several times last week for information concerning these decisions and never replied to Inside Minnesota Soccer. IMS tried again to gain information concerning the U-13 MTA teams disqualification with no success even though the State Cup schedule showed the U-13 MTA team disqualified. IMS learned last week that a new semi-final game was played last Thursday at Lucy Winton Bell fields to decide the team that would represent that end of the bracket. MYSA had to have notified coaches of the game that was played between Edina, who finished behind Kassa’s U-13 MTA team and Prior Lake, who finished behind Abboud’s U-12 MTE team.  Edina won the game 4-0 and represented group A & D in the bracket going on to the final that was played last Saturday. Eden Prairie beat Edina in that game 1-0.

Inside Minnesota Soccer also learned there may be more sanctions coming for the two coaches from the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association Youth Council. IMS will continue to try to get information as it becomes available.
