Which US Player’s European Stock Rose the Most?

by Brian Quarstad

I decided to conduct a poll to see which US National Team player gained the most amount of notoriety from the US’s success in the Confederations Cup. There are a number of players who already are sitting with decent contracts in Europe, like Tim Howard,  Clint Dempsey and Carlos Bocanegra. These players are also known entities in Europe.

However, there are players like Oguchi Onyewu who are looking to sign a new contract and still others like Jay DeMerit and Charlie Davies who have teams but their solid play could possibly help them to move up to better teams. There is no doubt that Landon Donovan was clearly the best player for the US and he improved his stock more than anyone else.

Keeping all this in mind, after Landon Donovan, whose stock went up the most from their play in the Confederations Cup?

I think Jonathan Spector should be thrown in the mix.

I think Damarcus Beasley’s stock went up when he got benched.

Nice one Jim. Kind of sad really, as Beas was amazing back 3 and 4 years ago. What happened to him?

As to Spector, I thought about it but he’s getting consistent play time at a Prem team. He could make a lateral move and make more money but I think he’s already a known commodity. If he gets consistent play time with Zola I think most people know what he’s capable of.

Onyewu, big tall solid defender. Very good in the air on defense as well as coming up on corners

I think Benny Feilhaber was a great mistake after watching the first game in the Confederations Cup. If you watch it again, you can see that he lost most of the balls, his passes were terrible and he caused at least one goal against the US team. Only in the last two games he played better. But I think that he should improve first before getting on the US national team.
