US Soccer News – TV Networks Agree to Increase Availability of English Broadcast of USA-Mexico
TELEVISION NETWORKS AGREE TO INCREASE AVAILABILITY OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE BROADCAST OF USA-MEXICO MATCH
Several weeks ago I brought you news that a little known network called mun2, a English language Hispanic based network, would be the only carrier of the US v Mexico World Cup qualifier on August 12, at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. I linked you to a petition to get the game moved to another more prominent and easier accessible station. Of course I wasn’t the only one, as bloggers and soccer writers around the country protested loudly and vehemently.
Last week I interestingly received an email from the public relations department of mun2 saying they had seen my blog post and that they had good news concerning the game’s coverage. No, petitions probably don’t get things changed in themselves, but the act of that petition – along with the voices of soccer fans and writers across the US – did get the circumstances changed so that everyone will be able to see the game for free. No, it’s not as easy as turning on ESPN, but still it’s better than not having any option to watch the game, and perhaps they will consider another route next time. So here are the details per US Soccer.
An increased number of U.S. Soccer fans around the country will have the opportunity to watch the U.S. Men’s National Team’s crucial FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mexico on Aug. 12 in English after NBC Universal announced it is offering mun2 as a free preview that day to all distribution partners. DirecTV an
d Dish Network have agreed to unlock mun2 on Aug. 12, providing greater access to the channel to watch the English-language broadcast of the match. Mun2 is currently listed as channel 410 on DirecTV and channel 838 on Dish Network. Fans should check their local listing to confirm channel listings as the above information is subject to change.
Phil Schoen will provide play-by-play and former U.S. Men’s National Team defender Marcelo Balboa will handle the color commentary for mun2.

Which means I still can’t get the channel without digital cable and a converter box.
Better than it was, but still sucktastic.
So, See you at the Sweetwater then?
Ya, it still sucks Dave but better than they were originally giving us.
Yup! You will see me at the Sweetwater Justin. I will be heading up the watch party.
Hold on, so is Comcast providing Mun2 free that day as well? Because in the article you only reference DirecTV and Dish Network. Are other cable companies such as Comcast providing it for free also? As a Comcast subscriber I hope that is the case!
Wish I had the answer to that Zak. If you look at the wording from US Soccer, it looks like it. “NBC Universal announced it is offering mun2 as a free preview that day to all distribution partners. ” So the key would be all distribution partners. However, not sure if you don’t have digital how they are going to make it available????
what about cablevision in NY does anyone know what channel it will be on if it is at all?
I have no idea. Sorry man!
Go to justin.tv to watch it.
