19th Annual MN State High School Soccer Coaches Clinic

2009 August 13
by Brian Quarstad

mshsscaThe 19th Annual Coaches Clinic will be held tomorrow, Friday, August 14, 2009 at Hopkins High School. The soccer coaching clinic is open to all interested soccer coaches.  You do not need to be a high school soccer coach to register and to attend this clinic. The choice of sessions provide options that youth coaches will find beneficial despite the fact that the clinic is targeted towards high school coaches at all levels.

Registration fee after August 1: $60. Registration fee includes lunch for all participants and a t-shirt for the first 250 registered coaches.

The Golden Gopher Women’s soccer team and coaching staff will once again be part of the clinic as they have for the past 5 years.

Dan Storlien, current Minnesota Lightning Head Coach and veteran club and ODP coach had this to say concerning high school soccer:

“It’s important that kids play high school soccer so they have a different experience and play a different role. They can still play on the top club teams in the state because we have November through May to get ready for State Cup, Regionals and Nationals. Playing high school soccer in the fall is one advantage that Minnesota has over a lot of other states.”

clinic06_rev6Inside Minnesota Soccer will be attending the clinic with the vendors and sponsors to make coaches aware of the site. IMS will also ask varsity coaches to supply IMS with information during the season concerning teams or particular players who have stories of interest and accomplishment.

IMS also hopes to cover the Minnesota State High School Soccer Tournament once again this year with stories, photos and audio interviews posted immediately after the games.

Interesting that the MSHSL has announced that they will continue partnering with KSTC-45 for State Tourney games with the addition of webcasts of games…of course, they decide to go with wrestling, volleyball, baseball and softball. Very disappointing that they missed a golden opportunity to follow soccer!

Thanks for bringing this to my attention Ryan. I knew soccer was being considered. This is very disappointing. See my latest post.
