MN State High School League Will Add Soccer Online TV Coverage in 2010
While at the Minnesota State High School Soccer Coaches Clinic on Friday, Inside Minnesota Soccer learned that the Minnesota State High School League does plan to include soccer in their online coverage for the 2010 fall season.
According to Chris Laird, former president of the MSHSSCA and who currently sits on the board of directors with the Minnesota State High School League, the current plan is to add one sport per season to the online TV coverage of state tournament’s that are not currently covered by conventional TV contracts. Laird said that Volleyball will be added this fall with wrestling added in the winter. The spring addition will be boys baseball and girls softball.
Laird went on to say that the board hopes to add soccer in the fall of 2010 if all goes well with the online coverage of this year’s tournaments.
Laird also corrected IMS concerning volleyball. Contrary to comments IMS made on Thursday, volleyball does have higher participation numbers than soccer at the high school level. Even though soccer has more organized club players, the large outstate numbers of high school volleyball players tops the numbers of players in soccer, which is centered more in the metro regions.
