Minnesota State High School Coaches Clinic
The 2009 Minnesota State High School Soccer Coaches Association Clinic took place on Friday at Hopkins High School in Minnetonka, Minnesota on Friday. Nearly 300 coaches attended the clinic that was held both indoors and outdoors. Clinics where well attended throughout the morning and early afternoon even though temperatures swelled to over 90° in the afternoon sessions.
Some of the clinicians were Jerrod Roh and Mikki Denny-Wright from the U of M Gophers staff. In fact the whole womens team attended as the coaching staff used them for the clinic practice sessions.
Craig Lang is a name familiar to many coaches who have been around soccer in Minnesota for years. Lang was the one of the first two A licensed coaches in the state of Minnesota along with Buzz Lagos and ran several clinics throughout the day.
Simon Whitehead from Coerver Coaching Minnesota and Edina High School Girls Varsity coach ran two sessions. One was called “Variations of the Coerver fast break shootout game.”
Jon Lowery, assistant coach of the Minnesota Thunder and head coach of Hamline University Men’s Team worked on “Combination play in the final third.” John Tudor, former Newcastle United player and current varsity boys coach at Holy Family Catholic High School, worked on the same topic called “Playing through the final third & creating chances to score.”
Cam Stoltz from Dakota County Technical College finished up the day with a session called “High end proper pressure-transition and defensive tactic of a 4-3-3 system.”
The University of Minnesota ran a report on the Gophers coaching staff being involved with the clinics. Here is that link along with the video below.
