Sarah Groven to Be First Women Inducted Into MSHSSCA Hall of Fame
At the Minnesota State High School Soccer Coaches Association meeting on Friday, August 14, 2009, President Elect Bill Vance announced that Sarah Groven will be inducted into the MSHSSCA Hall of Fame at the state banquet which is held the weekend before the state tournament. The honor will make Groven the first woman to enter into the organization’s Hall of Fame.
Groven has been head girls coach at Rochester Lourdes for all 13 years of the girls soccer program. In that time she has built a dominant program while promoting the game in southeast Minnesota.
Since 1997, she has served as both conference coordinator or section representative.
Her record is an amazing 189 wins, 62 losses, and 17 ties. Her teams won 7 of 9 possible conference championships and have appeared in 7 of a possible 13 state tournaments.
In Vance’s comments concerning Groven he stated: “Perhaps more than her exceptional record and impressive accolades, Sarah is a Hall of Famer because of the manner in which she holds herself and her teams on the field and off the field.”
An opposing coach who recommended her for the honor had this to say about Groven: “[Sarah] is sincere in her caring of opposing players and coaches, and demonstrates her unparalleled sportsmanship before, during and after play—win, lose, or draw. She is the epitome of class.”
Congratulations to the first woman inductee to the MSHSSCA Hall of Fame, Sarah Groven.
