Cat Parkhill Honored by Golden Gopher Soccer Program
At half time of Minnesota Golden Gophers home opener at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium Stadium on Friday evening, Cat Parkhill, freshman starting goalkeeper for the team, was honored in a ceremony.
The presentation in front of 987 home fans honored Parkhill for being the first Golden Gopher in history of the Minnesota Soccer program to play in International competition. Parkhill played on the U-20 US National team.
Parkhill and her team went on to win the Gold Medal at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with a 2-1 win over Korea on Dec. 7th 2008. In doing so, they becomes the first American team since 2002 to win the U-20 World Cup.
Coach Mikki Denny-Wright presented Parkhill with a framed National Team jersey with Parkhill’s name and number on it. Parkhill’s family was also on the field for the presentation.
