Jozy Altidore’s Dream Start – First Touch for Hull an Assist
American Jozy Altidore had a dream start for Hull City FC of the English Premier League with an assist on his very first touch 28 seconds after being substituted into the game in the 60th minute. Jozy’s insertion into the game with a standing ovation from the home crowd, seemed to change the dynamics and spirit of Hull.
In a game where Hull had few chances against their opponent Bolton Wanderers, Altidore’s substitution and assist seemed to bring his team and goal scorer Kamel Ghilas to life with his assist.
Altidore had several other chances including a chance for another assist after Ghilas blasted a shot off the crossbar that rebounded to Altidore. He took the ball to the corner of the goal and forced a shot instead of passing to a wide open Ghilas at the top of the goal box unmarked.
Altidore also had two more chances, one where he was left one on one with the keeper only to chip it inches wide of the goal. Another opportunity saw him receive the ball with his back to the goal and turn his defender. His shot was stopped but the turn was EPL class all the way.
Overall it was a fantastic debut for Altidore and a great start as Hull received the home win.
“It was incredible,” said Altidore. “I couldn’t sleep beforehand and I was really excited to get here. It was great, all I expected it to be and more. I just can’t wait to continue on with the club and to play more games like this. It was fantastic.”
