Brian,

Yes.

ODP is still relevant because it gives players access to quality training/coaches.

The USSF Academy in Brandenton is still important because it gives players opportunities to be immersed in a professional soccer environment at a young age.

The Developmental Academies (in particular those tied to an MLS or otherwise offered free of charge) are an excellent opportunity to play soccer in a professional environment.

I guess what I am trying to say is that it doesnt matter if it is the USL, the MLS, the DAP or whoever. We just need to give guys a chance.

If you want to give the USL PDL the love go ahead. But I dont believe the guys who run that league have such altruistic intentions that they sink all that money into it because they want to give guys an opportunity.

Sam, I don't think its fair to say USL's PDL has nothing to do with it. While it may be true that another vehicle could also get these players the training and attention they need and deserve, the USL's PDL is the one that's been there and USL deserves a lot of credit for that.

You would probably agree with me, but different ideas and programs have their time and then need to move on. Some will stay secure and not change. With the developmental academies I think a lot of things have changed. ODP is still their but not the power it once was because of the dev. academies but they still serve a purpose. I don't think that U-17 USSF academy in Bradenton has the same impact as it did 10 years ago. But it was super important when it first happened. We are still on our journey of trying to figure out what works best for us a country to develop players. USL has been there in a big way.

Sam,

I completely agree. I was quoting a comment on the SBI message board about the USL situtation. Simply trying to point out that MLS talk, IMS was getting some love.

Thanks.

Josh,

Guys going big time from the PDL has nothing to do with the USL. It has everything to do with what happens when players have opportunities to play quality games. That is the biggest tragedy of the MLS reserves disappearing and the rediculious restricions/limitations of ncaa soccer. Young American's need more opportunities to play in a professional environment and good things will come.

***Professional meaning quality coaches, teammates, opponents, facilities, nutrition, weight training, etc. and not necessarily being paid.

BQ,

I think i read between the lines. My apologies...

"Been reading the three part series at Major League Soccer Talk which indicates these issues between USL and its owners have been going on for a few years and that they owners all want more involvement in PR and league support.

The new league according to that site would include St Louis, Miami, Tampa, Montreal, Atlanta, Carolina, and Vancouver.

I'm not sure why the Whitecaps would get involved. Three different leagues in three years? Ouch.

I understand why this is happening, but USL has been outstanding- look at all the PDL guys who have gone big time. Tearing that league may make business sense but it makes no soccer sense.

Josh, I don't see anything in the comments that mention it. Either I'm missing something or they deleted it, which is possible.

Brian, great stuff as always. I was part of the focus group the Thunder put on last winter and a group of about 15 of us talked for at least an hour about how the Thunder could make a bigger impact in the Twin Cities. They warned us then that the team didn't have many resources, and I haven't seen our suggestions pan out too much. I really believe that the Thunder could have a much bigger footprint in this city if it just made the right connections. Hopefully these changes will help the teams do that.
