Augsburg’s Matt Bowman Featured on NCAA.com
Last fall Inside Minnesota reported that Augsburg’s Matt Bowman (SO, Maple Grove, Minn.) collapsed on the field during preseason and almost died. It was a scary moment for both players and coach Greg Holker. Bowman’s parents were also in the stands and knew things were serious. A horrific moment for any parent player or coach.
Bowman was diagnosed with a rare heart defect that could have taken his life at any moment. He underwent open heart surgery and has since recovered and miraculously started training with the team this summer. Even more miraculous is the fact that Bowman has started every game this year for Augsburg, playing 504 of the team’s 762 minutes so far this season. He scored his first collegiate goal in Augsburg’s 4-2 win over St. John’s on Sept. 16.
Now the NCAA.com has penned a nice feature on Bowman’s amazing journey from collapse to his noteworthy goal on the 16th of September.
