Golden Gophers Face Illinois Live on Big Ten Network Today

U_of_M_womenThe University of Minnesota women’s soccer team have headed to Illinois after their 1-0 Big Ten conference opener win on Thursday evening.  They will play the University of Illinois in the Illini’s conference opener today, Sunday, Sept. 27 at 1:00 p.m.. The game will be covered LIVE on the Big Ten Network which is channel 57 on Comcast in the Twin Cities.

BigTenNetworkThe game in Champaign, Illinois will also be a game played as part of the fourth annual SoccerFest, a celebration started in 2006 to get the Champaign-Urbana community excited about soccer by providing a fun-filled family environment. So the home field advantage will certainly be in Illinois’ favor.

The Illini are 5-3-1 on the season and like the Gophers started off the season Nationally ranked but have since fallen out of the top 25. Last season, Minnesota beat Illinois 1-0 in St. Paul.

Illinois leads Minnesota 8-5-1 in the all-time series and has won four straight over the Gophers in matches played in Champaign. Last meeting: Minnesota 1, Illinois 0 (Oct. 12, 2008)
