How Much did it mean for Honduras to Qualify for the World Cup?
As you know by now, with the US draw against Costa Rica and the Honduran win against Trinidad and Tobago, it put the Ticos and the Catrachos in a tie for 3rd place in CONCACAF. The tie breaker was goal differential and Honduras finished above Costa Rica in those statistics. Honduras was clearly one of the best teams in the region and rightly earned a ticket to the World Cup in South Africa next summer.
We also know that the Hondurans have been troubled recently with many political problems in their country. So how important was it and how excited were the people of Honduras after defeating Trinidad and Tobago but still needing the US to tie the game with Costa Rica to gain their way to South Africa? Well, listen to this absolutely fantastic Honduran radio call (in Spanish) of the conclusion of the US v Costa Rica game. The excitement starts right after the 20th second. I don’t speak Spanish but it wasn’t hard to interpret what they were saying.

LOL! Nice one. However, that added time was due to all the time wasting done by the Ticos along with the injury to Onyewu. I’ve never seen a team go into time wasting mode as early as Costa Rica did when they were up a man on the field. It was a major tactical mistake by Costa Rica as well as the antics of the coaching staff.
