High School Soccer Teams Approach Entry to State Finals

The final week of sectional playoffs are coming to a head with quarter and semi final games being played in the next several days. By Saturday evening we will know all of the participants of the 2009 Minnesota State High School Soccer Tournament.

Girls

#2 seeded La Crescent will play in the sectional final on Saturday 10/23/2009, 7 PM @ Rochester Regional Stadium. La Crescent defeated #3 Byron 1-. La Crescent will play the winner of tonight’s semifinal game between #9 Lake City and #5 Kasson- Mantorville. That game takes place tonight 10/21/2009 @8 PM at Rochester Regional Sports Stadium.

#5 Mankato East defeated #1 Albert Lea 1- on Tuesday evening putting them into the section final with #2 Mankato West. West defeated #6 Wilmar 1-0. That final will be played TBD on Friday 10/23/09.

#1 Seeded St. Paul Academy will play #4 Visitation this afternoon 10/22/2009 @3:45 PM at SPA. SPA defeated #8 Highland Park 4-0 and Visitation took down #5 Holy Angles 2-0.

The other half of this bracket sees #3 Minnehaha Academy facing off against #2 Blake also this afternoon 0/22/2009 @5 PM at Blake. Minnehaha took out #6 DeLaSalle 1-0 and Blake defeated #7 Trinity 4-0.

The winner of these 2 groups will play the 3A sectional final on Saturday TBD at the high seeds location.

#1 Mahtomedi will take on #5 East Ridge this afternoon 10/22/2009 @4 PM at Mahtomedi. Mahtomedi defeated #8 New Life Academy 11-0 and East Ridge beat #4 South St. Paul 1-0.

#2 Saint Croix Lutheran takes on #3 Simley tonight 10/22/2009 @7 PM at St. Croix. Saint Croix took out #7 Mounds Park Academy 4-0 and Simley defeated #6 Concordia Academy-Roseville 4-1.

The winner of these 2 groups will play the 4A sectional final on Saturday TBD at the high seeds location.

#1 Seeded Park Center will play #2 Rogers on 10/23/2009 @7 PM at Park Center High School for the 5A Sectional Championship. Park Center defeated #4 Totino Grace 2-0 and Rogers defeated #6 Heritage Christian Academy 3-0 to find their way to the final.

#1 Seeded Benilde-St. Margaret’s School will play #5 St Louis Park today at BSM. BSM defeated #8 Holy Family 3-0 and St. Louis Park beat #4 Rockford 4-1.

#6 Waconia will take on #2 Orono at Orono today. Waconia upset #3 Breck School 1-0 and Orono defeated #7 Providence 3-0.

The winner of these 2 groups will play the 6A sectional final on Saturday TBD at the high seeds location.

#1 Seeded Cloquet will take on #2 Esko this afternoon 10/22/2009 @5 PM at the Public Schools Stadium, Duluth for the 7A Championship and a ticket to the State Finals.

Cloquet defeated #4 Hermantown 4-0 and Esko beat #3 Duluth East 2-0.

Seems to be split into a north and south division so we have two #1 seeds playing each other in the final. #1 Seeded St. Cloud Apollo (south) will take on #1 East Grand Forks (north) tonight 10/22/2009 @7:30 PM at SCSU. St. Cloud Apollo beat Alexandria 3-1 and E. Grand Forks beat Sartell 1-0.

#1 Seeded Lakeville North H.S. will play #7 Rochester John Marshall today 10/22/2009 7 PM at Lakeville North High School for the 1AA Championship. Lakeville defeated #4 Northfield H.S. 1-1 (3-2 SO) and Lakeville beat #6 Owatonna H.S. 1-1 (4-3 SO).

2AA

#1 Eden Prairie H.S. will play #2 Edina H.S. today 10/22/2009 @5 PM at Eden Prairie H.S for the sectional Championship. EP beat #4 Bloomington Jefferson H.S. 1- and Edina defeated #3 Burnsville 6-2 to make their way to the final.

3AA

#1 Eagan H.S. will take on #2 Eastview H.S. today 10/22/2009 @7:30 PM at Farmington High School for the 3AA final. Eagan defeated #5 Apple Valley 7-1 and Eastview beat #3 Rosemount 4-2 to earn a ticket to the final today.

4AA

#1 Woodbury H.S. will play their sectional final against #2 White Bear Lake Area H.S. tonight 10/22/2009 @7 PM at Woodbury High School. Woodbury defeated #4 Hill Murray 3-0 and WB Lake beat #3 Stillwater 2-1 in the semifinals.

5AA

#1 Seeded Mounds View will play #2 Centennial Friday evening 10/23/2009 @7 PM at Mounds View High School. Mounds View took out Champlin Park 3-0 and Centennial defeated #3 Osseo on their march to the finals of the section 5AA final.

6AA

#1 Wayzata will play #3 Armstrong Friday evening 10/23/2009 5 PM at Wayzata HS. Wayzata defeated #5 Hopkins 4-0 and Armstrong beat #2 Minnetonka 3-2 to book a trip to the section final.

7AA

#1 Coon Rapids will play #2 Anoka in the 7AA final tonight 10/22/2009 @7 PM at Coon Rapids HS. Coon Rapids took out #5 St. Francis 1-0 and Anoka defeated #3 Duluth East 2-0 in their semifinal games.

8AA

#1 Brainerd will play #2 Elk River on Friday evening, 10/23/2009 @7:30 PM at SCSU. Brainerd defeated #4 Buffalo 2-0 and Elk River pushed aside #6 Moorhead 1-0 to book a trip to the final.

BOYS

1A
#1 seeded Rochester Lourdes H.S. will play #2 Austin H.S. in a 1A Final Friday evening 10/23/2009 @5 PM at Rochester Regional Stadium. Rochester Lourdes defeated #4 Winona 3-1 and Austin beat #3 Byron 4-1 on the road to the final.

2A
#4 Worthington will face off against #2 Mankato West this afternoon 10/22/2009 @ 4 PM at Dakota Meadows Middle School in the final of Section 2A. Worthington upset #1 Mankato East 2-1 and Mankato West took down #3 Wilmar 1-0 in OT.

3A
#1 Seeded Simley will play #4 St. Paul Central in a semifinal tonight 10/22/2009 @7 PM at Central HS. Simley defeated #8 Richfield 6-1and Central beat #5 St. Paul Academy 3-0.
On the other side of the bracket, #3 St. Thomas is playing #7 Holy Angles tonight 10/22/2009 @7 PM at St Thomas. St. Thomas defeated #11 Minnehaha Academy 2-1 and Holy Angels upset #2 Blake School 3-1.
The Final for these two sections will be held on Saturday TBD at the high seeds school.

4A
One half of section 4A is ready for the final. The other half is still battling to get there. #2 Seeded Mahtomedi will be making a trip to the final after defeating #6 St. Paul Humboldt 1-0.
In the other half of the section, #1 seeded Como Park will play #4 South St. Paul this afternoon 10/22/2009 @4 PM at Como Park H.S. Como defeated #9 New Life Academy 6-0 while South St. Paul beat #5 Mounds Park Academy 1-0 in OT.
The final is Saturday TBD 10/24/2009 at the high seed’s location.

No surprises in this final as #1 seeded Totino-Grace will take on #2 Fridley on Friday 10/23/2009 @7 PM at Totino-Grace High School. TG defeated #4 Meadow Creek Christian 4-0 and Fridley took out #3 Monticello 2-0 to earn their way to the final.

6A
#1 Breck School will play #4 St Louis Park today 10/22/2009 at Breck HS. Breck defeated #9 Holy Family 2-1 and St Louis Park played #5 Waconia to a 3-1 victory.
#3 Benilde-St. Margaret’s School will take on #2 Orono H.S. today 10/22/2009 at Orono HS. Benilde-St. Margaret’s beat #6 Chanhassen 4-1 and Orono defeated #7 Mound-Westonka 2-1.
The section final is Saturday 10/24/09 TBD at the high seeds location.

#1 Hermantown will be taking on #3 North Branch in the final of Thursday 10/22/2009 at 7 PM at Public Schools Stadium, Duluth. Hermantown defeated #4 Chisago Lakes 3-1 and North Branch took down #2 Marshal by a score of 3-0.

#1 Seed St Cloud Cathedral will play #3 seed Sartell in the 8A final today 10/22/2009 5:30 PM at SCSU. St. Cloud defeated #2 Bemidji 3-0 and Sartell beat #5 Crookston 3-0.

#4 Northfield H.S. takes on #2 Lakeville North HS today 10/22/2009 5 PM at Lakeville North High School for the 1AA final. Northfield took down #1 seeded Lakeville South HS and Lakeville North defeated #3 Rochester Mayo to gain a ticket to the final.

#1 Eden Prairie HS takes on #2 Bloomington Jefferson tonight 10/22/2009 7 PM at Eden Prairie H.S. EP defeated #5 Prior Lake 4-2 and Bloomington Jefferson beat #3 Edina to make their way to the final.

3AA
#1 Apple Valley H.S. takes on #2 Eagan H.S. today 10/22/2009 5 PM at Farmington High School. Apple Valley beat #5 Burnsville HS 4-0 and Eagan defeated #3 Park HS 3-2 in OT.

#1 Woodbury H.S. takes on #2 White Bear Lake Area H.S. today 10/22/2009 5 PM at Woodbury High School. Woodbury needed to beat #4 Cretin-Derham Hall and did by a score of 5-1 and WB Lake defeated #3 Stillwater 1-0.

#4 Champlin Park H.S. takes on surprise #6 Maple Grove H.S. Friday 10/23/2009 7 PM at Champlin Park High School. Champlin upset #1 seed Centennial H.S. by a score of 2-0 and Maple Grove took down #2 Osseso HS by a score of 2-1.

6AA
#4 Wayzata will play #2 Armstrong on Friday 10/23/2009 7:30 PM at Armstrong. Wayzata needed to upset #1 Southwest 0-0 (1-0 shootout) and Armstrong pushed aside #3 South 4-0.

7AA
#4 Duluth East plays #2 Blaine HS tonight 10/22/2009 7 PM at Blaine for the 7AA final. Duluth East upset #1 Anoka 2-1 and Blaine beat #3 Coon Rapids 2-0 to book a trip to the 7AA final.

8AA
#1 Elk River will face off against #3 Moorhead in the 8AA section final on Friday 10/23/2009 5:30 PM at SCSU. Elk River defeated #5 St. Cloud Tech 6-1 and Moorhead went to the wire plus against #2 Fergus Falls beating them in a shootout 4-1 after a 1-1 regulation and overtime draw.
