2009 MN State HS Soccer Girls 1A Semifinal – Blake over Cloquet
The second Class 1A Girls semifinal of the day saw the Cloquet Lumberjacks (19-3-1) take on The Blake School Bears (16-3-1).
Blake took the lead at 34:10 with a goal by Morgan Oie and assisted by Andi Foss. Foss came into the box from the right side with a defender on her side. The Cloquet keeper Kaitrin Rathe came out of goal and Foss saw her chance. She extended beyond the defender and popped the ball up and over Rathe. The ball was heading towards the goal. A Cloquet defender got to the ball in time to clear it off the line, but Morgan Oie for Blake jammed her clearance and deflected it into the top of the net from left side next to the post. 1-0 Blake.
The second half saw Cloquet step it up a notch. With the added intensity came a goal for the Lumberjacks. At 57:46 Sadie Micke fed Emily Johnson who scored for Cloquet bringing the score to 1-1. Johnson went at her defender and the Blake goalkeeper Crawford and kept behind the ball. Her shot hit the keeper and deflected back off Johnson, finding its way into the net.
But the Blake Bears had the last say in this game. Meghan Bauer feed Lydia Sutton who was making a run down the left flank. The 8th grade midfielder calmly turned the ball toward the keeper and fired low far post beating Cloquet keeper Rathe.
Blake will now play Orono in the Girls 1A final on Thursday morning at the Metrodome at 10:00 am.
