You wouldn’t have known that it was an 8:00 am game – on a Monday no less – with the level of play from both the La Crescent Lancers and Orono Spartans. Each team played hard from the get-go with plenty of action in the first semifinal of the day of the Minnesota State High School Soccer Semifinals held at the Metrodome.
Each team scored in the first half, La Crescent drawing blood first on a goal by Jen Kadlec and assisted by Jenna McDonough only 7 minutes into the match.
The Spartans returned the favor just 11 minutes into the game. Amy Tunheim with the goal assisted by Kerrie Dingmann.
Both teams exchanged chances throughout the game. The match was still a 1-1 draw at the end of regulation with 5 shots for each team.
As the game went into overtime neither team would know that the next shot would determine the outcome of the game.
6 minutes into the overtime, Orono won a corner with good pressure on La Crescent.  Amy Larsen sent a driving corner kick into the box where it was deflected out by a La Crescent defender. Orono’s  Dingmann was making a run into the box from slightly left of center. The ball fell perfectly to Dingmann’s foot as she blazed a perfectly hit full volley into the net in dramatic fashion.
Orono now move on to the girls Class 1A final on Thursday at 10:00 am.
