The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced the 2009 MIAC Men’s Soccer Awards today, November 12, 2009.

miacCarleton senior defender Robert Carlton was named the 2009 MIAC Player of the Year and leads the 20-player All-Conference team. Carlton manned the back line of a Knight defense that led the MIAC in goals against average and posted a league-leading seven shutouts in 10 contests.

The 2009 MIAC Coach of the Year award was given to Macalester head coach Ian Barker. Under Barker’s direction, the Scots finished 7-3 in conference play, good for a second place tie. Macalester qualified for the MIAC Playoffs for the first time since 2005 and went on to win the Playoff final last Saturday.

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the MIAC announced the fourth annual All-MIAC Sportsmanship team for men’s soccer. Members of the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
