It’s only recently that I’ve started visiting this site. I must say, I’m impressed. Thanks and congrats to the editor. You are very professional and entertaining. We need more info venues – such as this one – just as much as we need more professional players, stadia, coaches, etc. in order to see USA soccer move to the next level. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Thanks fotbalist. That’s very kind of you.
Too bad I didn’t see this sooner. Would’ve loved to listen. I was just rewatching US – Korea ’02. Not that this would’ve been better, but at least it would’ve been current!:)
As I told Brian last night, the quality of this blog and his reporting is reflected by the quality of the comments. I’ve learned as recently much about D2 professional soccer in this country and MN specifically that I wasn’t previously aware of from reading the comments as I have from reading Brian’s daily posts. That is a testament to the quality of IMS, the fact that it attracts such quality readers. Brian gets all the credit for that.
ERic – per BQ’s comments, if you click on the “Kick this Radio Show” link at the top of this article, on the left hand side of that home page you’ll see a “Kick this Podcast” link. Don’t know if they’ve made this morning’s show available yet, but you can always listen at a better time.
Brian, I’ve tried getting the podcast and it’s not up yet. Perhaps you can add it to your site to make it easier to find it. SWITCHING gears though, what’s happening with mnthunder.com. I tried going to the website to buy a couple of t-shirts and it said something along the lines of “application error”. Also, the link on the USL site is no longer live. Hopefully, it’s only a matter of tech/content updates.
I hope that Voyageur SC* buys advertising from this amazing site

The USL removed the link to mnthunder.com from their website a few months back as a result of the dispute between the rival factions AND the MN Thunder’s lack of payment to the USL (franchise fees etc…). In addition, I have heard that the ordering function on the website has been down for sometime. Your best bet would be to roll the dice and go down to the office sometime and see if they are open and buy directly at the office. However, it seems more likely that a Sheriff’s Sale may be the place to go (I got dibs on the Thor costume).
*Or whatever they decide to call the team.
P.S. This was a great listen today. Good job.
@fotbalist and SR,
I think the Thunder pro team has come to an end. With the GM and Camp Director off to Texas, and with word this week from the players that the Pres (Manny) sent an email notifying the team that he has not been working for the Thunder for at least a week or so already, it is hard to believe that something is going to revive the organization. It’s really too bad as the existence of the Thunder has been a tremendous benefit to the growth of soccer here in Minnesota.
Guess we’ll now see what NSC can do to try and keep high-level soccer in the area.
I’d suggest calling the Thunder front office before making the trek to Blaine to buy gear.
Tom – thanks. I was planning on trying to do that when I had a chance, but the way the next couple days are shaping up, more substantive news will probably come out before I get a chance to listen. On the plus side, I’m having fun doing things so I’m not sitting at the computer fretting about who the Aztex will be playing next season.
Thanks for the update Super Rookie. I’m terribly sad that the Thunder’s going. Terrible, terrible! Even if the level of soccer was not very good of late, I loved taking my family to a game a few times each season. I wanted to support the Thunder even though it was a 3 hr drive. We – the fans – need to just keep talking to people about the development of soccer in MN. The reality is that the fans are the ones who inspire investors. Patiently and positively we’ll do it. Keep Kicking!
Fotbalist-
There WILL be a team in Minnesota next year.
That is a guarantee.
