2 players is not a team but the NSC Stars are definitely headed in the right direction. NSC Minnesota announced their 2nd signing today with the inking of a contract with Andrei Gotsmanov.

The Hermann award semifinalist and Creighton University star was drafted in the 2009 MLS Superdraft by the New England Revolution. Gotsmanov eventually found his way to the Thunder where he had a very good inaugural game last season in July against the Montreal Impact. But he was soon injured with a double hernia and the player tried to wait it out. He didn’t see any more action with the Thunder last season and it was decided he needed surgery which he did in the off-season. All reports are he is back to his old self and looking sharp.

Andrei is the son of Sergey Gotsmanov, a Belarusian, who played for the Soviet Union in the 1988 UEFA European Championships and professionally for such clubs as FC Dinamo Minsk in the Soviet Union and Southampton in England. The elder Gotsmanov also played with the Thunder for several seasons.

“I’m very happy Andrei has decided to join NSC Minnesota,” said head coach Manny Lagos. “He is one of the most skilled players to ever come out of high school in Minnesota. Fans should be very excited to see such a great talent on the field.”

“I’m excited that Manny (Lagos) is the coach,” said Gotsmanov. “He believes in me and I’m looking forward to helping the new team start out on the right path. It’s important for Minnesota to have a pro team and I’m excited for all the clubs and soccer fanatics to come out and watch us play.”

Great signing. When properly motivated Andrea is an MLS caliber player. I know he has been struggling with a pesky sports hernia for quite a while. If his body and mind cooperate, he will be a stand out player in Division 2. Manny is probably the perfect coach for Andrea, given Manny’s high level accomplishments.

I agree with Zlatan. Very nice signing, at least on potential. He has loads of talent, just needs to stay healthy and realize that he only has a short window to play professional soccer…

I really like Andrei. I agree with Zlatan, he’s definitely MLS caliber. I hope he stays healthy, because I know he’ll be a good addition. Go NSC MN Stars FC! Wow! That’s a mouthful of letters.

Nordmann pointed it out to me the other day and I am in full agreement with the vocabulary being used by the current people under contract with the team (coach and two players). All of them are talking about non-stop hustle and tenacity. I know actions speak louder than words, but I want to see a team full of M-Trains that give it their all 100% of the time.

All too often last season we didn’t see that during a majority of games.

The hardcore fans live and die with their team. I hope that the players will do the same.

Lots of talent, no work rate.
