Ricardo Sanchez Settling in with the Vancouver Whitecaps
2010 March 6
Ricardo Sanchez is settling in with the Vancouver Whitecaps. Recently the Whitecaps website did an interview with Sanchez and he says he’s been too busy to check out the city much, but he is very much enjoying the quality of the Whitecaps training and their players.

I was somewhat offended about his comments when comparing MN to Vancouver and the level of intensity. In watching Sanchez play for the Thunder, I sometimes thought he played a lot like Randy Moss–he either gave 100% effort, and other times he looked as if he was “taking a play off.” Maybe he just has a different attitude?
I certainly wish him the best and look forward to seeing him play vs. the Stars!
Soccer Boy,
While I agree that it probably wasn’t the best PR move on his part and he could have handled things better and more tactfully, (language can sometimes be an issue on these sorts of things) I have heard many a player who have left the Thunder say the same thing but off the record.
Looking back on the last couple of years, players not getting paid on time, not getting paid at all, having a merry-go-round of players coming in and out of the roster as well as numerous coaches, going to a classy place like Vancouver, who may have some of the best facilities in the league and some of the most stable management, probably seems pretty good to Sanchez.
Also remember, before he came to the Thunder he was the California Victory who entered the league one year and exited the next. For him to be at a stable club with some of the best players in the league, well… I don’t blame him one bit.
I don’t think its a statement to us fans at all.
I also don’t disagree on work ethic and Vancouver will either change him or they will find out soon enough. I was told that the Thunder had to play a certain way in order to keep him on the field because they knew he was not always going to be a 2-way player.
BQ, great counter point-”not getting paid on time.” My motivation to further the interests of my employer would not be at 100% if I did not get paid.
I will certainly be in the stands (or the beer garden) cheering for Sanchez when he comes to town. I do apprecaite the guy signing autographs for my kids!
