Greg Holker and Minnesota 1993 Boys ODP Team Head to Championship Tournament
Minneapolis, MN – 3/9/10
Augsburg College men’s soccer head coach Greg Holker will be coaching the Minnesota 1993 boys’ Olympic Development Program team at the U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program Championship tournament this weekend in Phoenix, Ariz.
The tournament begins on Friday and concludes on Sunday at the Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix. Holker’s Minnesota squad is one of four 1993 (birth-year) boys teams to compete at the tournament, joining Pennsylvania West, Georgia and California South. Minnesota plays Georgia on Friday at 1 p.m., with California South playing Pennsylvania West at 3 p.m. Championship and consolation matches will be on Sunday at 8 a.m.
Holker’s Minnesota team earned a spot in the championships after winning a regional tournament in Rockford, Ill., in July 2009. The Minnesota squad went 4-0-1 in its five regional games, outscoring its opponents 14-6 in the process.

And, how did they do?
Sadly they lost both games.
The 93′s didn’t gel in AZ as well as they did in IL last summer. A couple players missing from last years squad, but not enough to make a huge difference. Holker and JT did another nice job with this group, I’m guessing the limited time they had to train and gel differing styles, and the quality of their opponents was the difference.
