Major League Soccer First Kick Watch Party

2010 March 24
by Brian Quarstad

This Thursday night, March 25, is the kick-off game for the 2010 Major League Soccer season.

This is the league’s 15th season.  The newest expansion team, the Philadelphia Union, will play the second newest team to MLS, the Seattle Sounders. The Sounders had phenomenal success last year with great attendance numbers and the organization was lauded by soccer experts in the U.S. as “doing things right.” They were very responsive to their supporters and it showed at the gate and in Sounders apparel sold.

Philadelphia now has their chance to impress this year. PPL Park will be a brand new soccer specific stadium (SSS) for the Union that will open in 3 months’ time. However, Philadelphia will make their MLS debut at  Qwest Field in Seattle, Washington in front of a sold out Sounders crowd.

Please join readers of IMS for a Major League Soccer First Kick Watch Party. We will be gathering at the Sweetwater Bar & Grille on Thursday evening with kickoff set for 8:30 pm. The game will be carried live on ESPN 2.

I am thinking about faking a sudden illness tomorrow evening, telling my wife I am going to the ER and heading down to the Sweetwater.

Boring second half. Too bad about the red card. It killed the game.

Thanks to everyone who came out. We had close to 40 people. Included where a few of the guys trying out for the Stars.
