IMS has learned that Leonel Saint-Preux has been dropped from the Austin Aztex Roster.

The team had previously announced on March 3, they had signed him to a 2-year contract.

IMS learned that Saint-Preux had picked up a serious groin injury that most likely would require surgery and cause him to miss the entire 2010 season.

Austin Aztex CEO Djorn Buchholz confirmed on Saturday that the Haitian international had indeed been dropped from the roster. He stated that he had not been hurt in training but instead came into camp with the injury. He was not able to comment on the injury or seriousness but did say the injury was linked to his time spent this past fall and winter playing in the Vietnamese league. Saint-Preux had been playing for Hoa Phat in Hanoi, Vietnam. Buchholz stated because of the pre-existing conditions, they were able to void the 2-year contract.

Saint-Preux had played for the Thunder in the 2009 season but was gone for a month due to his time playing for his country Haiti, were he showed well for them in the Gold Cup. Saint-Preux had a particularly good game when his country faced off against the US.

It’s said Austin was hopeful that Saint-Preux could help the Texas team with some offense that they were lacking in 2009. Austin scored only 28 goals in the 30-game league schedule and only Miami FC (26) and the now defunct Cleveland City Stars (22) scored fewer times.

When the Aztex had announced the signing, coach Adrian Heath was hopeful that Saint-Preux would add some speed to the lineup.

“We are delighted to have Leonel because we thought he played very well when we played against him last year,” said Heath on March 3rd. “We think he’ll be a very good addition to the squad and will give an injection of pace to the team. Overall, it is a good signing for us this year.”
