Minnesota Sends 2 Teams to USASA Region II USOC Play-In this Weekend – Fire SC ’00 & Twin Stars
As reported at IMS several weeks ago, Minnesota will have 2 teams competing this year for a spot in the US Open Cup Tournament. The USOC is the oldest sports tournament in the US. Teams from all levels can compete in the tournament but they must first qualify while all 2nd Division teams like the NSC Stars are automatically entered into the tournament. The winner of the USOC is given a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League Tournament.
The Fire SC ’00 and the National Premier Soccer League’s (NPSL) Twin Stars will both be traveling this weekend to compete in the United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA) play-in tournament games.
Heading east, the Fire SC ‘00 will travel to Chicago, IL to play the AAC Eagles (Illinois). The game will take place at the brand new Chicago Fire exhibition turf field near Toyota Park in Brideview, IL. The two teams will be the first official game played at the new field. The game will be played this Sunday, May 2 at 3:00 pm CT.
The Fire SC ’00 compete in the Minnesota Amateur Soccer League (MASL) where they are the two-time defending league champions. They won the Minnesota Cup hosted by the Minnesota Soccer Association, the governing body of soccer in the state. Winning the Minnesota Cup qualified them for this play-in game.
Heading the opposite direction will be the Twin Stars. They will travel to Omaha, Nebraska to play the 402 Academy (Nebraska) which is a team made of mainly of Creighton alumni. That game will also be played on Saturday, May 1 at 3:00 pm CT. The Twin Stars qualified for the play-in by winning the Midwest division of the NPSL.

GO MINNESOTA TEAMS!!!!
Maybe someone can answer this for me since Google gives me blank stares, NSC’s website has no mention, and the Open Cup site can’t tell me a thing….
Are the NSC MN Stars going to be in the Open Cup this year?
And thanks in advance for any good answers… which would be better than the zero I have right now lol.
I do believe it is in the rules somewhere, prob. on the US Soccer site, that Division II teams (D-2 pro league) are automatically entered into the tournament. Different rules for MLS teams.
Thanks Brian.
