The two Minnesota teams vying for a United States Adult Soccer Associations (USASA) spot in the US Open Cup were both eliminated on Sunday.

In a USASA Region II Quarterfinal game on Sunday in Chicago at Toyota Park’s new turf exhibition field, the Fire SC ‘00 were spanked 3-8 by the AAC Eagles IL.

In another USASA Region II Quarterfinal game on Sunday in Omaha Nebraska, the NPSL Minnesota Twin Stars made it a contest but still dropped the game to the 402 Academy (NE) by a score of 1-2.

The NSC Minnesota Stars of the USSF D-2 Pro League have an automatic berth into the tournament and will begin play in early June.

This is some bummer of news but I’m just glad some amateur and lower rank teams are entering the tourney and repping the State. I hope this trend will continue.

I’m glad to see them entering the tournament as well. It’s nice to see the Region II hegemony of Illinois, Wisconsin and, occasionally, Michigan challenged by some of the other states.

BTW, “automatic birth” should be “automatic berth”.;)

I hate when I do that!

Rough result for Fire Sc, the quality of soccer in Illinois is excellent though so it isn’t too surprising of a result.

I suspect many of the top level Fire players weren’t available due to the fact they’re still away at college.
