At a press conference held in Montreal, MLS Commissioner Don Garber made it official this morning. The Impact will be the next expansion team in MLS, joining the league in 2012.

It was announced by owner Joey Saputo that the team would not have outside investors and he and his family will pay $40 million for the franchise. The Impact also announced that the team will play some games at Montreal’s Olympic Stadium where the dome will allow them to host year-round events. Saputo Stadium, the current home of the team, will go through 23 million dollars of improvements to bring the venue up to MLS standards, bringing the seating to over 20,000. The stadium that was opened in 2008 currently seats 13,034 and usually sells out.
