2010 MYSA State Cup Results

2010 May 26
by Brian Quarstad

The 2010 State Cup is pretty much in the books. 169 Minnesota teams participated in the tournament playing 275 games over a 5 week period. The winners of Minnesota’s State Cup get a berth into the USYSA Regional competition starting June 25,  in Dayton, Ohio.

Tom Moriarty, MYSA Tournament Director, said the Lucy Winton Bell location worked out well. “The difficulty is always finding a 6-field site,” stated Moriarty. “We used Coon Rapids for a couple of years and now we’ve been here 2 years. If we could find an 8-field site that would be ideal but it’s always difficult early in the season.

St. Croix in Red faced the Minnesota Thunder Academy in blue for the U-16 final. St. Croix won 2-0.

Rain and lightning last Saturday morning delayed a number of semifinals which then needed to be played in the time slot for the finals on Sunday. Those finals were rescheduled to tonight except for the U-17 Boys which ends up being rescheduled to next week. However, U-17 teams teams are in a unique situation as it’s Minnesota’s year to draw the wild card in Region II. So both the winner and the loser of that game will travel to the Regionals.

The U-19 Women’s Championship game between MTA and Woodbury will be played Saturday, June 5. There is only one U-19 Men’s team which is the Minnesota Thunder Academy. They will get an automatic berth into the regional competition.

Thanks, I actually thought so but MYSA official on hand told me differently. Must have not had final score. I know they scored right before the end of the game. That must have been the solidifying goal and not the winner.

I have a son on the St.Croix Rossoneri team and was there for the final. I am also a commercial photographer and have started a website for sports photos. I have lumped all the state cup games into one gallery under the title “State Cup 2010 U16B”. The final game will be at the end of the gallery. If you see an image you would like to post, just let me know and I can get it to you.

Thanks Michael. I also sent them the others I had but only had about 5 decent images. I spent most of my time at the U-18 game.

When did MTA boys program become so dominant? I knew their girls program was strong but the success of the boys surprised me a bit.
