Bornstein will hopefully not see a single minute.

The inclusion of Findley over Ching is astonishing.

I had my fingers crossed that Charlie Davies name would magically appear on the list.

    I love this squad!

I got one wrong… Findley is going instead of Ching. Not sure where Bob Bradley’s head is on this one????

In the press conference after the ESPN announcement, Bradley said Ching had still not fully recovered from injury.

He also said that he still thinks Findley gives them a little something special that could help the US. My guess is he will never see a minute of time anyway.

Some people on the internet are speculating Ching is playing through injury and may need surgery.

Robbie Findley just hit the lottery.

Findley over Ching will be Bradley’s albatross around his neck. If Findley is successful, he is a genious.

“Bradley said Ching had still not fully recovered from injury.” Gooch didn’t even look close to recovered and he made the squad. His gait clearly displayed he has a long way to go.

    Let the second guessing begin.

The difference is you have a few forwards that are close to the same quality (maybe different individual qualities) as Ching. Which central defender in the pool can play nearly as well as Gooch when he is healthy?

Bad news about Ching. I hate the Houston Dynamo, but think that Ching is a pretty good guy in the final analysis. I am completely stoked that Buddle is on the team. I predict he will score multiple goals against England.

One thing about your footy predictions Soccer Boy, you may not be very accurate but you certainly aren’t afraid to go way out, waaaaaaaay out on limbs.

I think Gooch is there because, yeah, we don’t have many other options. I think Findley got in because of speed. Ching looked good last night, but creaky. I don’t know how he’d stand up to tournament play in high altitude.

    Hey Brian -

To nitpick, if I may, Clark is with Eintracht Frankfurt, Gomez is with Pachuca, and Beasley is without a club.

I think we need to give Findley a chance. He clearly has better health than Ching, and he’s actually been able to provide decent stats this season as opposed to Ching.
Otherwise, the defense is in major need of help. Gooch is not healthy, and clearly not ready for competitive play. I fear our midfield will get bogged down having to support the back line, and will not be able to produce the way they are capable of.

    Hey Nathan,

That is a copy past from US Soccer’s press release from two weeks ago when the 30 were picked. Good catch.

That is definitely a concern of mine as well Lamps.

I also was hoping Davies would be in the mix. Am I the only one who feels Dempsey would perhaps do better in that “Davies” role (I say that because it was clearly his position to lose before the car wreck) than anyone else? I mean he scores goals and is cheeky. That would play well in cooperation with Altidore. I just think Dempsey is mediocre in the mid but produces well up top. Let’s face it, Ching was ok but he was never an aerial genius like McBride and just isn’t that fantastic consistently. I’m afraid we are going to be hard pressed to score goals without the Altidore/Davies combo we had at the Confederations Cup. Let’s hope Bradley knows more about it than we do!

Personally, I think way too much consternation goes into the final roster spots of players who most likely will never see the field in SA. I’m more worried about who is going to make up the starting back line and if the USA goes with Dempsey in midfield who is going to partner with Altidore up top (I’m cautiously optimistic that either Buddle/Gomez can fit the bill). I think we’ll get a clearer picture after the friendly with Turkey and it should be crystal clear after Australia.
