ESPN 2010 World Cup Murals

In promotion of ESPN’s 2010 World Cup coverage, the sports network giant has commissioned artists, at the direction of ESPN and Wieden+Kennedy agency, to depict a story of each of the 32 teams in a mural.

Vanity Fair reports that each mural will appear in publications and on subway platforms and billboards in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and elsewhere from now through mid-July. The network worked with the Wieden+Kennedy ad agency and the little-known AM I Collective, a group of artists based in Cape Town, South Africa. The murals are said to have been inspired by the style of Ghanaian movie posters from the 1980s.

I’ve not seen all the Murals but so far I like the USA’s the best. I suppose because I’m partial to the story of our country’s founding but it also has significance with our first game being played against England. Overall the concept is great and it’s a unique way to advertise the world’s biggest sporting tournament which ESPN will be covering in its entirety.

Here are 10 other countries’ murals plus the mural commissioned for Africa.
