NSC Minnesota Stars Defense Helping the Team Gain Points

Andres Arango

Andres Arango received a yellow in the 65th minute of last night’s game. The card is Arango’s 5th of the season which means he will be forced to sit out the next Stars game for accumulated yellows.

Arango’s play has been outstanding this year, particularly in the last month and a half. He was a candidate for USSF D2 Player of the Month for June by starting and playing in all 90 minutes of shutouts on June 4 against Rochester, June 9 against Montreal and June 17 against Portland. He scored his first goal of the season on June 26 against Crystal Palace Baltimore in a 3-1 win and played every minute in June for a defense that allowed only three goals in five games.

That defense has helped the Stars gain 16 points in their last eight games. The team is now now 5-2-1 since May 29 and have dropped their goal differential from -19, worst in the league to -7 and have only allowed 6 goals in that time. Last night’s shutout was the team’s  4th in the last 7 games.

Huge loss for the Stars in back vs. AC St. Louis. The Wrangler has been playing some excellent soccer as of late. This will be a good opportunity for the Stars to step up and get another three points. Come on you Stars!
