Minnesota Women’s Soccer Draw with Toledo
The University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Women’s soccer team, who were ranked 26th in the nation last week in the NSCAA Division 1 poll, tied Toledo this afternoon in a scoreless game. The 0-0 score held despite 110 minutes of action where Minnesota dominated corner kicks 13-3 and shots 18-5.
Gopher goalkeeper Cat Parkhill, who was the Big Ten defensive player of the week after last weekend’s Gold Classic tournament, recorded her second shutout of the season.
“Overall we didn’t feel like we executed like we needed to in the final third, and our players are obviously disappointed with the result,” Minnesota head coach Mikki Denney Wright said. “We’ve only got a couple days before a very important game with South Carolina, and we need to prepare to play a full 90-minute game on Thursday.”
Minnesota are now 6-1-1. The Gophers’ next game is a big one as they take on South Carolina in Columbia, S.C. The Gamecocks are 5-1-1 coming into Thursday’s game with the Gophers.
