Augsburg Prevail and Concordia Upsets; MIAC Men’s Playoff Results
Concordia-Moorhead 3-1 Macalester
First place Macalester College Men’s Soccer Team was upended last night by 4th seed Concordia-Moorhead in a MIAC semifinal playoff contest.
Riley McGlynn scored for the Cobbers from 15 yards out just 1:08 into the first half of play. Just 11 minutes later Macalester became their own worst enemy putting in an own goal. That goal was recorded in the 13th minute. The goal proved to be the game winner.
Concordia’s Kyle Kazemi put the icing on the cake in the 65th minute with a 25-yard shot from an acute angle.
Tayor Rasmussen took a feed from Chris Kartheiser in the 90th minute to finally put Macalester on the scoreboard. But it was too little too late as the Cobbers stole the show and move on to a Saturday final playoff with Augsburg College.
Augsburg 1-0 Carleton

Tuesday evening's starting 11 for Augsburg
The Augsburg Auggies hosted their first ever MIAC soccer playoff game on Tuesday night against the Carleton Knights.
The Auggies used that home field advantage and scored in the 26th minute of the first half. Junior Matt Bowman served up a ball that found Chad Gilmer’s head. The sophomore forward headed it in for the eventual game winner and his team-leading 8th goal of the season.
The Auggies were able to hold off the Knights in the second half and retained a 10-7 shot advantage as well as a corner kick advantage, 9-4.
“Carleton is a tremendous team,” coach Greg Holker said. “They play good soccer and have incredible individual players. Year after year, they do it the right way. They’ve been the standard for the rest of us to try and achieve.”
With the win, Augsburg will host Concordia-Moorhead this weekend in the MIAC Men’s Soccer playoff championship. The Auggies will take a 342-minute shutout streak with them into that game.
