NSC Stars and Former Thunder Players Make MISL Rosters

The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) expanded this season with several new teams. With the league expansion comes the opportunity for more outdoor players to make a living during the winter playing soccer. Amongst those roster spots are a number of former and current players who have plied their trade for Minnesota teams.

Former Thunder players Marco Terminesi and Jon Greenfield are both on the roster of the Milwaukee Wave this season.

Terminesi had an outstanding season with the Wave in 2009 and was named Rookie of the Year. He played for the Thunder in the summer of 2009 and after a good season there started off strong again for the Wave before suffering with severe headaches that were eventually diagnosed as a non-malignant brain tumor. Eventually the headaches subsided to the point where he was signed with the Montreal Impact last summer. The Canadian forward hopes to get a complete season in with the Wave again this year and get back on track of being one of the league’s top scorers.

Greenfield played with the Wave back in the 2004-’05 season, then moved to the Detroit Ignition for 2 years. He  played for the Baltimore Blast for two years and then moved to the Rochester Rhinos outdoor team this past season after spending a number of seasons with the Thunder. Greenfield and the Rhinos had the best record in the USSF D2 Pro League this past season. He moves back to the Wave after a five-year absence.

The Baltimore Blast signed 2009 Thunder midfielder Rich Costanzo and 2010 Stars forward Warren Ukah.

The Omaha Vipers, which is a first year franchise, have signed three former Thunder players: 2008 Brazilian forward Frederico Moojen, physical defender Chris Brunt who played from 2004 through 2006, and Johnny Torres who played forward for the Thunder from 2002 through 2003 after spending a number of years in MLS. Torres is an assistant coach at Creighton Men’s Soccer program who are currently ranked #10 in the country.

The Missouri Comets are another first year MISL team and they have signed Leo Gibson who played with the Thunder from 2005-’08 and Stars midfielders Geison Moura and Lucas Rodriguez.

NSC Stars midfielder Kentaro Takada is currently on trial with the new Chicago MISL team the Riot.

I am confused. How does 5 teams represent “expansion” and “the opportunity for more outdoor players to make a living during the winter playing soccer.” Didn’t they have more teams last year? Where are the Philadelphia Kixx?

Some teams came, some went. The Kixx are on On Hiatus. You can check out the teams here:

Lucas Rodriguez, Stars’ left-midfielder in the 2010 season, is also playing the Missouri Comets.

Thanks, I knew that and somehow missed it when I wrote this up. I’ve corrected it in the article.

You have 5 committed teams and owners currently in the MISL. The league is set to expand by a few teams next teams. More teams in the midwest and east coast are likely.

There’s a group in St. Louis that’s actively seeking to revive the MISL in the Gateway City.

So regarless what happens with AC St. Louis, there could very well be an MISL in St. Louis next year. That team would at least triple AC’s average attendance.

BQ: Any news on AC STL? I hear it’s not good.

Be patient Brian. Things will start hopping soon.
