NSC Minnesota Stars defender Scott Lorenz just finished a 5-day trial with the Kansas City Wizards that took place over seven days. The former UW-Madison player was said to have had a very good tryout with the Major League Soccer team. The Wizards finished the season in third place, just one spot out of the playoffs in the Eastern Conference.
Lorenz will start tryouts with D.C. United tomorrow and that trial will finish up on Friday.
Stars head coach Manny Lagos had been watching the career of 22-year-old Lorenz when he was at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. The Barrington, Ill. native played just about every position but goalkeeper as a Badger.
He was invited to the Stars combine for a trial this past spring but didn’t catch on at first. Eventually he signed a contract and saw some time on the pitch in US Open Cup games. Eventually he got his chance to impress when he was called to duty with an injury to 2nd year defender Chris Clements. Lorenz started slowly for the Stars but caught on quickly. Within a short time he was playing the left outside back position well enough to earn himself 19 games this past season.
Lorenz spent time as a youth and college playing forward which Lorenz has said helped him to be a better fullback. He also had one of the best left-footed crosses for the Stars.
Lorenz was also awarded the duNord Futbol/IMS Rookie of the Year for the NSC Minnesota Stars for the 2010 season.

Good luck Scott!
I saw Scott improve with each match during this past season. Keep up the great work, sir!
Friends don’t let friends play for DC. I’d love to see him at Wizards. Or Sporting KC or whatever they’re calling themselves. Good luck Scott!
Do you remember when Scott Lorenz was playing MASL at the beginning of the summer? I do…
I am happy that the Stars picked up on this hidden gem after he didn’t catch on during the combine.
It bring into question how hard the coaching staff are actually looking at the players during the combine seeing that he is getting an MLS trial at the moment after he didn’t catch on right away with the Stars.
Not to sound negative but the combine should be more then collecting $100 from a bunch of kids fresh out of college.
Wait a minute. Manny kept an eye on him for a long time and brought him in and gave him a chance because he saw potential, right?
Also, Scott pretty much sucked the first several times he stepped on the field, right?
But Manny saw that potential and continued to try to give him a chance anyway, right?
So what the hell are you talking about? Sometime you just like to blow smoke don’t you MM.
