Apple Valley boys soccer team has won the 2010 FieldTurf award for the Great Lakes Region High School Team of the Year. Apple Valley went undefeated this year for the second consecutive year and ended the season 24-0-0. The team ended the season with their 48th consecutive win started in August of 2009. The State Championship was their second consecutive state title and the school’s 9th boys AA championship.

This year’s awards had a very Minnesota feel. Not only did Apple Valley win the Great Lakes award but former MLS star and current Minnesota Stars head coach Manny Lagos and Shattuck-St. Mary’s boys head coach and soccer director Tim Carter were part of a 9-panel judging team. Other judges were Lynn Berling-Manuel, Jon Busch, Tony DiCicco, Curt Johnson, Becky Sauerbrunn, Larry Sunderland and Mike Woitalla.

Director of Soccer Development at FieldTurf is Jim Froslid who served as the Minnesota Thunder General Manager and President from 2000 to 2005.
