Sanneh Foundation Receives US Soccer Foundation Grant
The US Soccer Foundation has awarded a grant to former US National Team player Tony Sanneh’s foundation. This is the first time the Sanneh Foundation has received this important grant from US Soccer.
The U.S. Soccer Foundation is the Major Charitable Arm of Soccer in the United States. On January 14th it awarded 63 grants totaling $2.5 million to non-profit organizations serving youth in 30 states. Since its inception, the U.S. Soccer Foundation has awarded more than $54 million to groups, both large and small, in all 50 states.
The U.S. Soccer Foundation supports programs and field building projects that provide low income and at-risk youth in urban communities with soccer programs that promote education, healthy lifestyles, leadership and positive alternatives to drugs, crime and other at-risk behaviors.
The Sanneh Foundation is now a full time job for Tony as he has broken his organization into numerous programs like:
For All Youth, which works to expand participation of youth of color in organized soccer and to build cultural competency within organized soccer in order to ensure that youth of color have a successful experience.
Kick it Back, a nationwide program established by the Sanneh Foundation in 2009. The program’s core objectives are to promote the need for new and gently worn soccer shoes, increase contributions, and serve as a vehicle to distribute the footwear to those in need. Kick it Back has led to Sanneh partnering with numerous organizations like the LA Galaxy.
The Haitian Initiative which Tony started with the LA Galaxy after the Haiti earthquake in January of 2010. The Galaxy and the Galaxy Foundation made a humanitarian trip to Port-au-Prince, Haiti to distribute supplies, deliver soccer equipment and conduct soccer clinics. Former Galaxy player Sanneh was invited to travel the foundation. After the visit, the Galaxy Foundation and The Sanneh Foundation partnered to form the Haitian Initiative, a joint project dedicated to providing aid, equipment and soccer-based youth programming to the children of Haiti during the rebuilding process.
