ST. PAUL, Minn. — St. Kate’s Athletic Director Eric Stacey has announced the hiring of Chris Citowicki as the Head Soccer Coach at St. Catherine University. Citowicki adds a vibrant new energy to the Wildcat soccer program and brings experience at all levels of the sport.
Citowicki is a familiar face in the MIAC, after serving as an assistant women’s soccer coach at Augsburg College for the 2010 season. While at Augsburg, Citowicki was a key in attracting new recruits to campus and helping the team to a winning record in the MIAC. Citowicki has been an active member of the Olympic Development Program in Minnesota for the past few years, serving as Head Coach of the 1996/1997 girls’ teams. He has also coached at the club level with Woodbury Soccer Club and is involved with numerous soccer camps within the community.
Citowicki played professionally for several years in Australia before coming to the States to attend Lock Haven University. Citowicki graduated in 2006 and then went on to earn a Master of Science in Sport Studies from Bemidji State University, where he was a graduate assistant coach and helped lead the Beavers to a 12-6-1 conference record.
Coach Citowicki spoke with enthusiasm about the road ahead: “I’m very excited to be joining the St. Kate’s family and I’d like to thank the search committee, athletic director, and vice president for giving me this opportunity. St. Catherine University offers a fantastic environment for intellectual and personal development and I couldn’t be more proud in representing the mission and values of this great institution. I would also like to thank Steve Bellis for all the work he has done in laying the foundation we stand upon today. His work has given us the base from which we will continue to build the Wildcat soccer program.”
Athletic Director Eric Stacey commented on Coach Citowicki, “I am thrilled to have Chris joining our coaching staff. His technical knowledge of the game of soccer is outstanding and he has gained great experience in building a program as an assistant coach. I am confident that his strong work ethic will lead to a very bright future for St. Kate’s soccer.”
