NSC Minnesota Stars to be Outfitted by Admiral

by Brian Quarstad

The NSC Minnesota Stars will be wearing Admiral kits this season. The same company that supplied the first professional soccer team in Minnesota, the Kicks.

What’s old is new again. We are breathing new life into this brand that used to be on the jerseys of the giants of the game. The goal is to outfit all of the NASL in the original soccer jersey, and Minnesota is where it all begins.

Those are the words of Paul Hamburger, CEO of Admiral soccer apparel. The CEO was making the point that Admiral, the first brand in the United Kingdom to grace the jerseys of sports teams, is making a comeback and looking to dominate the soccer gear market once again. Admiral supplied the playing kit for major soccer teams in the 1970s and 1980s, including England, Manchester United, Los Angeles Aztecs, New York Cosmos, Tampa Bay Rowdies and Vancouver Whitecaps.

“Admiral is an iconic British sports brand with nearly 100 years of heritage,” said Djorn Buchholz, Stars CEO. “We are proud to be associated with an original British soccer brand, especially one so strongly associated with Minnesota soccer and the NASL.”

The Stars will unveil the new home uniform to the public on Thursday, April 7, at 7 p.m. at La Cantina #1 inside Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn.

Their first game of the season is April 9 against the Atlanta Silverbacks in Atlanta, and their first home game is April 30 against the Carolina RailHawks.

If the NASL’s live streaming is up and running by the opener on April 9th, a watch party will be presented at The Sweetwater Bar and Grille in St. Paul, MN. Watch IMS for details.

Anyone want to hazard a guess as to which model we’re getting?

I could guess the model but then i’d be cheating! You can be sure both the home and away kit look and feel great. Definitely classy and different!

Thanks for the comment, Paul. No fair that you know. However, I too have seen the jersey. We’ll just have to wait until next week. Are you coming in for the kit unveiling?

God, I just hope it’s not the classic Kicks’ bright orange. I love that jersey, but I love it on the Kicks.

And my guess would go to either the Plata or the Dynamo, though I’d LOVE to see the Chelsea as an away jersey.

Good choice on La Cantina, Stars! Really is a nice place, and I think they have salsa dancing starting around 9 or 10. Spice up your night a little ;-)
