New NASL logo created by 343RLP+

[ 343RLP+ ] with Design Director and Principal Rich Levy, announced on Wednesday that they have been retained by the new North American Soccer League (NASL) to guide the league from a branding and creative perspective.

Levy, who was formerly Creative Director for Major League Soccer (MLS) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) before starting 343RLP+, designed the new wordmark and primary logos for both the NASL and the renamed and rebranded Fort Lauderdale Strikers, who participate in the NASL’s 8-team league.

343RLP announced they will help the NASL on a variety of branding, creative and marketing efforts to bring the NASL brand to life, ranging from brand positioning, web and print promotional advertising, official match ball design and the championship trophy design.

“We are proud to partner with the NASL, a name synonymous with soccer heritage in North America where the sport continues to grow its footprint year after year,” said Rich Levy, Principal and Design Director of 343RLP+ Creative Group. “The new brand identity is an important part of a long-term strategy to drive a new era of greater engagement with the NASL teams, commercial partners and fan base for the 21st century.”

“When I met Rich Levy and learned that he had grown up as an NASL fan and spent over a decade leading creative for MLS, the decision to retain his firm, 343RLP was a no-brainer,” said Aaron Davidson, Chief Executive Officer of the NASL.  “Rich and 343RLP are yet another product and sign of the maturation of soccer in North America. We now have truly experienced professionals on and off the field taking soccer to the next level in the region. And 343RLP has already demonstrated this invaluable experience to the NASL during the creative process and launch of our new logo and website which have garnered many compliments since we unveiled them on March 28.”

Maybe it’s mostly my desire to see D2 soccer do really well and become a stable league in the US, but dare I say, NASL seems to be making a lot of decisions and changes that really DO seem to be turning it into a legitimate, successful league? Sure, there’s the whole team ownership issue looming, but I’m hoping and thinking that with a solid, stable league, new investors/owners will be much more willing to buy a team.

    Good on ya, NASL!

Ditto. To paraphrase the magic 8-ball, all “signs point to ‘yes’.”

Nice! Rich and Co. did a tremendous job on the new Strikers and NASL identities, makes sense to keep them on board moving forward.

NASL is on a roll, they got a great new logo/image, made a good hire for commish, and are having a heck of a team rebirth/launch with the Strikers.

Things are not perfect with the league by any means, but they are damn sure looking the part of an organization that is professional and knows what they want to do and where they are going. Unlike the old, flaming buckyball D2 ways of the past.

Here hoping for the best for every market in the league and D2 soccer moving forward.

The more professionally the league is run, the more people with pockets deep enough to run teams will step up in additional markets. Actions like this, and the upgrade in team standards announces a couple of days ago (3 subs, not 5; min # of players, physio, asst. coach and coach for road games, etc.) are what “real” leagues do.
The last piece of the puzzle to draw in more ownership groups to start up teams in more markets across the land is for people to go to the matches. The stronger the attendance is, league wide, the quicker the number of teams grows. The owners, certainly Traffic, have done their part to prep the NASL. Now it’s on the fans to make this thing take off.

I agree with everyone above, especially Steve The Arsonist. It’s up to us to go to games and support the local teams. Above that to make our voices heard on websites like this, which support D2 soccer. We already know that a person like Davidson pays attention to the opinions expressed on site like IMS, and perhaps others that have taken seriously their role as supporters of D2 soccer.
    Go NASL!

Please, please fix FC Edmonton’s logo. It is B.O.R.I.N.G!! It belongs on a bottle of beer, not on a soccer jersey. Get rid of the super cliche maple leaf popping off the top of the shield, and the “cut and paste” soccer ball.
